1. In these wood block prints the Chinese are portrayed as weak and hiding, or very barbarian like. They are often times being killed violently. The Japanese, however, are portrayed strong and always standing tall. They almost seem invincible.

1. Sports are a way for countries to compete and show they’re superior without a war; A civilized way to dominate others. Why does this matter to a people? What do they find so gratifying in the experience of witnessing their team beat another in the arena of sport?
2. Colonialism is also about showing that you are culturally superior as well. It shows the country that was colonized and the rest of the world that they can dominate this country and control it.

1. The artistic renditions depict the heroics better because they can be, and usually are, somewhat exaggerated or romanticized. The paintings are usually somewhat biased and make the heroes of the country they are intended for look better.
2. The photographs depict the horrors of war better because they are actually real and one can see that they are not exaggerated. With the art it is easy to think that it exaggerated, and in most cases it usually is.
3. I believe that the medium makes a massive difference in how the message is viewed. Photographs can give a real portrayal and people see the facts and believe the message, but the artistic renditions give more of a fantasized version, which can affect peoples emotions. 5-11-2011
